![]() Doodle and the Golden River Grass Live - Sugar Creek |
Blue Ridge, Georgia -
Sugar
Creek Bluegrass Festival - July 27, 1985. A special day for
fans of North Georgia Bluegrass of the traditional nature. Doodle
and the Golden River Grass did one of their ‘high-octane’ stage
shows followed by a great session of impromptu numbers in the camping area.
As would be expected they were joined by several good friends including
noted bass singer ‘Elwood P. Suggins’ and
a young guitar picker Larry Benefield.
The stage show included in addition to John “Doodle” Thrower, clawhammer banjoist extroidanaire James Watson, Gene Daniell on upright bass, C.J. Clackum rhythm guitar, Wesley Clackum mandolin, and fiddler Randy Franks - one of the first performances by Franks with the group. This recording provides a snapshot of one of North
Georgia’s most popular traditional performing groups and a direct link
to Georgia’s rich link of musical history.
