Board Minutes 4/8/99

Purpose:
Click HERE to view the data findings of the Nutrasweet/aspartame research project.

I. Data Analysis

1. At least 5 changes in headaches from treatment went down.
2. Number of respondents who frequently used aspartame went from 8 to 2.
3. Number of respondents who never used aspartame went from 3 to 7.
4. Number of respondents who often used aspartame went from 4 to 0.
5. Number of respondents who never used aspartame went from 6 to 7.

A Chi-Square test for significance was conducted (pre-survey respondents)
Chi-Square value = 1.49
Table value for Chi-Square @ 0.05 level (1 degree of freedom) = 3.84
The above indicates that there is no significant difference at the 0.05 degree of confidence level.

II. Questions Raised by Research

1. Do headaches increase because of lack of water intake?
2. How often do you drink 8-10 glasses of water daily? (clarification needed)
3. How much does each person need of water per day in relation to headaches?
4. Would the time of the treatment make a difference?

III. Limitations

1. Increase sample size.
2. Be more specific with water intake.
3. Use a control group.
4. Have a longer treatment time.
5. Test people who have never used aspartame.
6. Document specific number of drinks and foods per day containing aspartame.

Next Meeting: April 15, 1999
